shrines

welcome to my shrines!

Here is where the things that I am obsessed with live. The icons along the sides will take you to dedicated shrine pages. This page holds my mini-shrines, for topics I want to ramble about but don't need an entire page to do so. Or, things that might get a page eventually, but don't have one yet..!

WWinkipinki

Born in a flower garden in spring, Winkipinki is my favourite Sanrio character, peaking at 55th place on the popularity ranking in 2013. But shes so adorable!!!

According to the Sanrio wiki; "Winkipinki likes playing violin, drawing, and collecting fashion accessories. She was born in a flower garden in the springtime when the tulips are in bloom. Her friends are the flowers in the garden, the fish in a pond, and terrier who loves to go on walks with her. "

I love her colours and her sweet little face. I think sometimes when companies try to make something cute these days, it can be a bit.. weird looking? But I think she's cute in a very sweet way. There is never and will never be any merch of her because she came 71st in the last ranking.. So I cannot purchase merch of my fave Sanrio character no matter how bad I want to. #sustainablityicon

Independent Cinemas

My time living in different cities is marked by which independent cinema I form an fierce and undying attachment to.

The Lighthouse, Dublin // Palás, Galway // Lab111, Amsterdam

These cinemas are like little havens to me. I love that because of them, I end up watching films that weren't even on my radar. I love the variety of what they play, and the thought that goes into curating different seasons. And I love how comfortable they are, or strange and artistic little spaces, often with a cafe or bar that you can sit in for as long as you like.

⟡˙⋆ Realm of the Elderlings ⋆˙⟡

Listen I know a 16-book series is a hard sell, but if you have any taste for fantasy, I implore you to go check it out!! Every now and then I go into the tag, or the subreddit, and look at all the posts saying that finishing the books has left a vast hole in their life - and c'mon, try and tell me you don't want a book series to gut you like that

We have dragons, war, adventure, several of the worst father figures you could imagine, family trauma, an evil amulet that thinks its wearer is too much of an asshole, magic as (accidental) queer allegory,a protagonist with self esteem issues and his literal wolf who is more emotionally intelligent than him, jester-core non-binary swag, roadtrip montages, two characters who are bound by fate and no-homo kiss several times, and so much more!!

Fungi

Fungi are some of the strangest & most fascinating forms of life I've come across, and I absolutely adore them. I studied them very briefly in college and theyre just bizarre!! Also, I highly recommend the book Entangled Life by Merlin Sheldrake if you're curious!

Aside from their biology, one of the most charming things about fungi are their names, which often sound like they're lifted straight from a fantasy novel.

  • Amethyst Deciever Laccaria amethystina

⟡˙⋆ Pottery ⋆˙⟡

If money were no object, I think this is the thing I would choose to do with my life. My first time behind the wheel was at an intensive weekend course when I was 16 and I was enthralled. Since then, "do more pottery" has been on my short and long terms goals in perpetuity. I actually don't get to do it all that often, because classes are incredibly expensive if you want to go with any regularity. But someday!!

It is an incredibly physical, meditative process. There is simply no chance to think of anything but what is happening on the wheel in front of you. The clay is heavy, and it pushes back against you, so you have to be both careful and confident in your movements. Everything about throwing on the wheel brings me so much joy!
