Dishonored

"If I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more" - me, to the Dishonored franchise.

Wish I was joking but safe to say this is my game. Mine. This is my game. Made for meeee.

I have this game on xbox, playstation AND pc because?? I guess I never want to be in a situation where I can't play it. My art and lore book is one of my prized posessions. If there is one game I could give a lecture on, it'd be this one, except it would mostly be me wildly gesticulating at screenshots of the game. Always sunny pepe silva kind of energy, but because where do i even START???

I'll make a shrine someday, I'm sure..

Being introduced to The Outsider as a character altered my brain chemistry I think. Character of all time. And Corvo!!! Here's some lore for reading this far - I have witten one (1) fanfic in my life, and it was Corvo/The Outsider. World's worst power dynamic, world's most initruiging pairing to me. Also unlike many other shippers, Death of the Outsider was the worst thing to happen to me and I simply pretend it never happened. I'm afraid I do not care for the outsider as a human.. Let my man be unknowable!!!

Dragon Age: Origins

Elissa Cousland my BEST CHARACTER!! My girl's family got massacred, she went from a sheltered noble to doomed Grey Warden, she became sisters with a bog witch, and declared herself Queen of Ferelden because her boyfriend was dithering about it. And then apparently fucked off elsewhere for the next 15 years?? Who knows!

In my mind her and Alistair are living it up and somehow neither is dying of blight. And that she simply decided she did her duty and everything else going on in Thedas was simply Not Her Business.

Dragon Age 2

HAWKE!!!!! I love this game. I love how small scale it is, wedged in between two world-ending plots. I love that your entire friend group largely hates each other, but you can still have the most incredible time getting to know them. I love the rival/friend dynamic in lieu of a straight approval mechanic.

Because I play bioware games as dating sims, I also cannot avoid talking about Fenris who is the BEST and the most special character and he is so precious to me, and his dynamic with Hawke consumed my every waking hour while I played this game.

Baldur's Gate 3

I grew up watching my big brother play the original baldur's gate, so trust me I was HYPED when I heard this game was being made.

And then it did come out, and it was obviously a masterpiece - BUT. I was also going through a really tough time in my masters. And this game became like, my only coping mechanism. Obsessed isn't the word, genuinely, it was a little bit toxic bc I would stay up until dawn playing this game, several nights in a row.

And ASTARION. Worrying. Concerning. My friends were sick of me, I simply could not shut up about this guy. Thankfully when I finished my first play through that kind of broke the spell a little bit, and I was free to have a life once more, but this is one of my favourite games ever and I probably will never stop going back to it.

My second playthrough was my teifling Bard Durge-resist Gale romancer named Saer, and my third was my drow Durge "what the heck lets go for it" warlock Evil Astarion kisser called Orist. I've gotten to act 3 in both and I love them almost as much as I love Tav. Please don't ask me how many hours I have in this.

I am weak, WEAK for chatsims. Blame Mystic Messenger for setting my preferences, but to me the best dating games are the ones that hide their visual novel DNA in some other wrapping.

The writing is also so funny, it's so good. The flirting feels realistic, the interactions feel genuine, the romance (though obviously very fast) feels pretty believable given the high emotional stakes, and the way they wrote Caspar... I need help.

This game had me giggling and hiding my face and taking screenshots every three seconds and best of all? IT'S FREE*!!! Go play it!!

* there is DLC, but it just gives a few more dialogue options and replaces the fade-to-black scenes with.. more descriptive scenes.

I actually havent finished ME3 yet, I devoured the first two and then made the mistake of taking a break. But trust that the brain worms have taken over, I will be back

I put off playing these games for soooo long because I am incredibly bad at any game that requires you to aim, so I kind of assumed they'd be too difficult for me!

Medieval chore simulator

I do not enjoy difficult games, because I am Bad At Games. Combat in this game is punishing. But like, obviously? Because this is your first time playing this game, and this is Henry's first time holding a sword. Isn't kind of weird actually, how in other games your protagonist is a humble country lad who somehow can fight really well?

Well, not our boy Henry, who is so very clearly just a country lad at the beginning of this game. 1v1 is TERRIFYING and you WILL be sprinting away from fights for a very long time. Henry is just kind of flailing the ssword around, the bow wobbles in his hands, and if you want to be any good you have to train. Not Henry - you. There is no training montage, just the slow grind of learning a new skill, and you slowly gain the muscle memory of when to click and where to position the cursor so that you don't immediately die.

And what's more - you have to craft potions by hand, with herbs you collect by hand, if you ever want to save the game. About to start something vital and don't have a Saviour's Schnapps on you? Tough luck bud. Either find an apothecary table and make some more or trot all the way home, pray you don't get killed on the way back, and sleep in your bed to save.

And ohhhhhh it's rewarding. Ohhhhh it's so good. You start to actually feel like you've triumphed over something. When you survive a fight, barely alive, terribly concussed, not even sure if you can make it to a save point before Henry collapses from exhaustion/hunger/blood loss, it is exhilarating.

I don't like difficult games. But somehow, miraculously, KCD is absolutely, genuinely, top 5 game of all time for me. And all of this goes for the sequel too, which is honestly even better. Pleeeeeease play this game, it's a masterpiece.

And I havent even spoken about the characters or the story or the setting or the music or the other 18 systems that make this game so intricate and so good!!!!

GAY medieval chore simulator

100+ hours in - I laughed, I cried, I learned how to get good at a game instead of button mashing, and to top it all off I got a doomed gay romace. Literally what more could I ask for in a game.

Citizen Sleeper

There's a lot to like about this game. For one, the art and setting is excellent. The story and characters are fantastic - I genuinely cared about these people and their problems. The gameplay itself is inventive! A breath of fresh air. Your actions depend on spending dice, and your choice of what dice and how many to use on what honestly makes for some excellent decision making moments.

But mostly, what I like is that this game is short. I rarely finish games, honestly. I either get utterly obsessed, and forsake my actual life and responsibilities to eat through a game in an ungodly pace, or I simply never finish that 60-100 hour game. But I also have no interest in games I can finish in an evening. This is the sweet spot. This is a game you can finish in a week, or a weekend. That's both enough time to get me to care, but not so much that I give up/ become consumed.

And I'm really grateful to Citizen Sleeper for being a good game!! Because genuinely, prior to this game I had no interest in shorter games, because theyre.. kind of bad value for money..? Which is not to say theyre bad games, just that I wasn't choosing to spend my money on them! But you should. You should spend your money on this game, and then also go play its sequel.

Pokemon series

Well I had to have some pokemon game here, but this can represent all of them. Tho maybe S/V is my favourite tbh!

It's the first time since I was a kid that I felt super part of the pokemon community while playing, and was around when other people were still playing and trading. So it has a special place in my heart!

RPG/Action

Fire Emblem: Three Houses

「Finished: 2019」︎

My first FE game! Bought it and it immediately became an obsession. Turn based combat! Not-too-complex builds! ROMANCE.

Clair Obscure: Expedition 33

「Finished: not yet...」︎

Yes I will be obsessed with this, it will probably move to favourites once I finish.

Give me more turn based games!!! The combat is so satisfying, doesn't (exclusively) rely on reaction time and hand eye coordination which is a plus for me!!

I can't comment on the story because I'm not done yet, but so far it has blown me away!! There was a, uh, moment, where the story did a thing, and I had to pause and spend 10 minutes doing laps of living room going, "surely not? they wouldnt, would they? There's no way? Just like that?"

I love the characters, I love the mystery, I love that the gang's camping essentials are: a campfire, a cooking pot, a grammaphone. And that's it. 10/10 guys I'm glad you came prepared.

Outer Worlds

「Finished: 07/21」︎

I love space capitalism satire action games, I'm just a sucker for colony towns as a setting! Super fun game, I had a blast playing.

Dragon Age: Inquisition

「Finished: 2016 & 2024」︎

okay listen I did LOVE this game, I do love this game!! It's exclusion from the faves tier is because it's so bloated with side quests. I love so much about this game but I cannot fathom doing another 800 mindless fetch quests to get to the actual great meat of the story. It's not too bad when you're in it, but there were 7 years between my first and second play-throughs for a reason

Danganronpa

In finding the image for this game, I have discovered - there are a LOT of fangames made for this series. I never knew!! Pretty cool honestly.

Anyway, yet another game series that formed part of my personality for my entire teenage years. Knowing that these games were foundational texts during my formative years probably tells you a lot about me now, for better or worse!

Was and still am obsessed with Junko, I've been on that unhinged woman fangirl grind since day 1.

Divinity: Original Sin 2

Well I was a Larian fan before Baldur's Gate 3

Inscryption

PLEASE play this game, and just go in blind. Phenomenal.

Why is it not in my faves? Theres a point in the game where the format changes a bit, and for whatever reason I utterly lost steam and just never actually finished it. But still a brilliant game!!!

Stardew Valley

I bounce off this game a lot, the gameplay loop never really grabs me for very long. So when I com eback a year or two later, I restart my save for the nth time and have fun for a week and then drop it.

The only time I got very far is the game where I worked in the mines all day so I can provide for my hardworking farmer friend, and I love my job so much. THEN the gameplay works for me! I yearn for the mines.

He's the brains of the operation running the farm and I'm the grunt sidekick who cracks rocks and runs around town collecting items for the community center at his command

Fallout: New Vegas

Have not played any of the fallout games since maybe like 2014?? But I'm putting NV here because until I replay em all & refresh my memory, I cant say which one is my favourite.

Undertale

「Finished: 2016 & 7/25」︎

I mean, it needs no introduction, right? I finished my first playthrough in 2016, doing just a "normal" not quite genocide run, because I didn't know that was a thing. I still remember when this game was a pretty niche thing, and "sans undertale" was a name that the entire internet didn't know.. I enjoyed the game, but I was a pretty surface level fan. I never went back to do a second run, just enjoyed being in the fandom for a few months and moved on.

Then with Deltarune chapters 3&4 being released I figured I should re-play undertale before playing deltarune, and I completed a pacifist run! There's nothing I can say that hasn't been said about this game. But re-playing reminded me just how much I loved it, hoe funny and charming and brilliant it is.

If you somehow have NOT played, I really really do encourage you to! It's pretty short, it's genuinely so much fun, and it's just one of those historic games yknow?

I've started (slowly) playing Deltarune and I am OBSESSED with Ralsei. Worrying. I have finally found the Toby Fox blorbo of my heart.

Persona 5

「Finished: 2019」︎

My first Persona game, and I loved it, obviously! The characters, the story, the ART, the addictive game play loop. I was Locked In playing this.

Also, the soundtrack got me through an entire year of college work.

Infamous: Second Son

「Finished: ???」︎

Have not played this since release, but listen, this was when "choices matter" was this crazy new thing and the idea that you can lead your character down two different paths was revolutionary. And it was SICK as HELL. I was sooo hyped for this game!! And it lived up to it!!!!

Also I had a huuuuge crush on Delsin I am a simple woman if I like your fictional man I'll love your game. The game opens with him defacing a billboard like okay hey rebel... and then he runs his mouth and things happen that make him TRAGIC, and there's no escape for me.

Dragon Age: Veilguard

「Finished: 11/24」︎

This was a really fun game and a really bad dragon age game. I enjoyed playing it, I liked the experience, but I do pretend that it doesn't exist. When I say "I love dragon age", I am excluding this game

Like, listen, this is a fun game. It really is a good time! I think iit's worth playing. But boyyyyy it's a let down if you want to play a dragon age game. Ohhh my god. Painful. That is not Thedas? Like, this is not the same world?? Also I cannot describe the genuinely painful cringe of having to sit through the "Ah, if you misgender Taash you have to do push ups to say sorry" scene. Like - HUH???? They are pirates who are too uptight to apologise normally, but will do a weird penance ritual if they fuck up some pronouns.Okay. Alright. That's enough now Veilguard.

Actually sorry one more thing about the Lord's of Fortune specifically - these are the fortune-obsessed pirates that have cultural ambassadors on staff, to make sure that they don't do a British museum on any artifacts they find. This is a truly baffling choice (because WHAT. Pirates LOVE gold and tresure and killing people for it, but they draw the line at misappropriating cultural artifacts ARE YOU KIDDING ME how did you cinnamon roll you PIRATES.) but more importantly - this crew is headed up by Isabella. So, the logic here, is that Isabella on purpose stole the Qunari BIBLE in DA2, absconded with it (in my world state), and then was like "let's hire someone so I don't make that blunder again", and that is so so funny to me.

Little Witch in the Woods

「Finished: not yet」︎

I love this game!! I figured 'd like it, but I didnt expect to love it!

The art is gorgeous, the animation is fantastic (the potion complete in particular), and the gameplay loop is so satisfying. I thought it'd be a bit grindy, and I suppose it is, but I adjusted pretty quickly! Collecting ingredients for your potions is a lot of fun, especially as you learn more about the plants and animals in each area.

I havent played very far, but after 7 hours I get the impression this is probably a game I might finish (quite the honour!!)

My first proper otome!! What a one to start on. Pure fluff, great story, genuinely the most likeable band of LIs to exist. Every path I played I kept going "surely this is my favourite..!" but they all were so lovable in different ways!

If you need convincing this game is good - I didnt know you could auto skip scenes, and so I sat through the common route every. single. time. And somehow still finished this game.

A little silly at times (pos), but with a story worth unraveling, and very fun. Loved all the boys actually, their routes really do an excellent job in showing you new sides to them.

This is a cute little game! I probably won't finish it honestly, I think most of the fun is finding out the character designs.

Given the literally 100 characters to meet, there isn't much time to give me the full on romance squees that I'm looking for in these kinds of games.

Worth a buy on sale for sure though, if you're interested!
